Duplex, Super Duplex & High-Alloy Stainless Steels

Duplex & High-Alloy Stainless Steels — Technical Sourcing

Material, product form, dimensions and documentation coordinated for corrosive and project-critical service.

MNK-G.S.A sources duplex, super duplex and selected high-alloy austenitic stainless steels through qualified European and international supply routes. We review the required grade, product specification, delivery condition, size, testing and destination before quotation.

The Complete Requirement Controls the Supply

A designation such as 2205 or 2507 identifies a material family, not a universal substitute for every specification. The agreed EN or ASTM product standard, exact UNS or European designation, solution-annealed condition, dimensions, corrosion-related requirements and inspection documents must match the inquiry.

Material Groups

Duplex 2205

EN 1.4462 / UNS S32205 or S31803. A widely specified duplex family combining elevated mechanical strength with resistance to localized corrosion and chloride stress-corrosion cracking. The exact UNS designation must be stated and verified.

Super Duplex 2507

EN 1.4410 / UNS S32750 / F53. A 25Cr super duplex grade considered for severe chloride-bearing, seawater, desalination, offshore and chemical-process duties, subject to the design specification and service conditions.

Additional Super Duplex Grades

Requests may also cover EN 1.4501 / UNS S32760 / F55 and copper-alloyed EN 1.4507 / UNS S32520 or S32550. They are separate grades: neither designation should be substituted for another without engineering approval.

High-Alloy Austenitic Grades

The sourcing scope includes 904L / UNS N08904 / EN 1.4539, 254 SMO / UNS S31254 / EN 1.4547, UNS S31050 / EN 1.4466 and high-strength XM-19 / UNS S20910. Some stock catalogues associate XM-19 with material number 1.3964; this reference is accepted only after certificate and specification review.

Trade names and common market labels are provided for inquiry matching. The ordered material is controlled by the agreed designation, product standard and inspection documentation.

Consolidated Sourcing Range

The ranges below combine complementary stockholder and mill routes. They describe the current sourcing envelope, not a guarantee that every intermediate size is held in stock at the same time.

Round Bar — Diameter & Length

  • 1.4462: sourcing envelope approximately Ø5–550 mm.
  • 1.4410, 1.4501, 904L, 254 SMO and XM-19: approximately Ø10–550 mm.
  • 1.4507: published routes approximately Ø20–300 mm.
  • Stock and cut-piece route: selected grades and diameters from about Ø3–160 mm in lengths from 100 mm to 3 m.
  • Commercial bar route: many listed grades are supplied in 3–8.5 m lengths; published 1.4462 ground-bar routes extend to 8.5 m. Larger diameters are commonly quoted in commercial mill length or cut to size.

Sheet & Plate — Thickness & Format

  • For 1.4462, 1.4410, 1.4501, 904L and 254 SMO, combined routes cover approximately 2–125 mm thickness.
  • Approximately 2–30 mm: common trade formats include 1000 × 2000, 1250 × 2500, 1500 × 3000, 1500 × 6000, 2000 × 4000 and 2000 × 6000 mm, depending on grade, thickness and finish.
  • Approximately 30–125 mm: normally sourced as quarto plate, commercial mill plate or cut pieces. Published mill programs reach widths up to about 3200 mm and, for suitable grade/thickness/width combinations, lengths beyond 6000 mm.
  • Processing: waterjet, plasma, laser or sawn pieces may be arranged where technically appropriate.

Pipe & Tube — Size Definition

  • Pipe and tube are quoted by grade, outside diameter or NPS/DN, wall thickness or schedule, seamless/welded route, end preparation and required length.
  • A published stock route for 1.4462 seamless pressure pipe uses random full lengths of approximately 4–6 m; fixed and exact cut lengths are confirmed separately.
  • Heat-exchanger, instrumentation and process-piping dimensions are checked against the governing product standard and service requirements.

Fittings, Forgings & Machined Parts

Flanges, butt-weld and forged fittings, branch fittings, blinds, hexagon bar, rings, discs, forgings and drawing-based machined parts may be sourced against the required grade, dimensions, pressure class, heat treatment and inspection plan.

Range confirmation: the figures above combine complementary mill, stockholder and cut-to-size routes. They do not mean that every grade is continuously stocked in every diameter, thickness, format and length. Availability depends on the exact designation, dimensions, heat-treatment condition, surface finish, tolerance, quantity and certificate requirement. A quoted range does not establish interchangeability between grades.

Application Context

Marine, Offshore & Desalination

Possible duties include seawater systems, offshore piping, pumps, valves, shafts, heat exchangers and desalination equipment.

Chemical & Petrochemical

Applications may include process piping, pressure equipment, tanks, acid-handling systems, scrubbers and pollution-control equipment.

Pulp, Paper & Flue-Gas Cleaning

Selected grades are used for digesters, bleaching equipment, process tanks, piping and flue-gas cleaning systems.

Structural & Mechanical Components

High strength can be useful for shafts, rotors, impellers, bridges, storage structures and other engineered components.

These are application contexts, not automatic grade recommendations. Material selection must account for the medium, concentration, chloride level, temperature, pressure, fabrication route, welding procedure, loading and governing design code.

European Standards & Inspection

Material lists, product delivery conditions and inspection documents are separate parts of the technical requirement. The applicable standard is selected by product form and service.

Flat & Long Products

  • EN 10088-1:2023 — list of stainless steels.
  • EN 10088-2:2024 — delivery conditions for corrosion-resistant sheet, plate and strip for general purposes.
  • EN 10088-3:2023 — delivery conditions for semi-finished products, bars, rods, wire, sections and bright products for general purposes.
  • EN 10028-7:2016 — stainless flat products for pressure purposes, where applicable.

Pipes, Tubes & Fittings

  • EN 10216-5:2021 — seamless stainless-steel tubes for pressure purposes.
  • EN 10217-7:2021 — welded stainless-steel tubes for pressure purposes.
  • EN 10253-4:2025 — butt-welding fittings in austenitic and austenitic-ferritic stainless steels with specific inspection requirements.

Inspection Documents

EN 10204:2004 defines inspection-document types. Depending on the project, the package may require 3.1 or 3.2 documentation, heat traceability, chemical and mechanical results, corrosion testing, ferrite or phase-balance checks, PMI, ultrasonic testing or other NDT.

International Specifications

Projects may instead be governed by ASTM, ASME, NORSOK, NACE or other specifications. These systems are not treated as blanket equivalents to EN standards. The exact grade, product form, standard edition, supplementary requirements and inspection route are confirmed before placement.

Relevant EN Product-Form References

These references support order preparation by product form. The current authorised standard, material grade, edition, design code and project documents must be verified before quotation.

Relevant ISO References

Use the current authorised edition together with the governing product specification, project requirements and inspection documents. A standards reference does not establish automatic grade equivalence or product approval.

Duplex Corrosion and Phase Control

The product standard and project specification must define grade coverage, test method, sampling location and acceptance criteria. ASTM A923 and ISO 17781 are complementary references, not automatic equivalents.

Send Your Duplex or High-Alloy Stainless Inquiry

Send the required grade and specification, product form, dimensions, quantity, service context, inspection-document requirements and delivery destination. We will verify the technical requirement and consolidate the appropriate sourcing route.

Duplex and PH Stainless Bolting Reference

Finished fasteners require the dedicated bolting route; a duplex or precipitation-hardening stainless bar certificate alone does not establish component compliance.
