MATERIAL COMPARISON
Specify the exposure and acceptance basis before choosing the grade.
Comparing 2205 and 2507 is not just choosing the larger number. Define the component requirements, then ask for evidence applicable to the product and fabrication route being offered.
Differences to verify
| Criterion | Duplex 2205 / 1.4462 | Super Duplex 2507 / 1.4410 |
|---|---|---|
| EN | 1.4462 | 1.4410 |
| UNS | S32205 | S32750 |
| PRE | 35 | 43 |
Product basis: Forta DX 2205 and Forta SDX 2507. No universal strength, lifetime or permissible temperature is assigned to either grade here.

What should drive the choice?
Corrosion case
Define the actual medium, temperature and operating cycle. Ask how the offered product will be assessed against that case rather than relying on PRE alone.
Mechanical case
Set the required properties for the actual product form and condition. Do not use a value for one form to accept a different component without justification.
Fabrication case
Confirm that the fabrication plan covers the selected grade, including the intended welded joints. Agree how the finished component will be accepted before ordering.
Limits of substitution
2507 is not automatically interchangeable with 2205, and neither designation is a promise of suitability for every seawater or chemical service. Treat any substitution as a separate technical decision.
