TUNGSTEN–RHENIUM WIRE, ROD & HIGH-TEMPERATURE PARTS
WRe Tungsten–Rhenium Alloys
Composition-controlled sourcing for tungsten–rhenium wire, flat wire, rod and engineered components.
MNK-G.S.A sources WRe by exact rhenium content, product form, dimensions, finish, application specification, inspection documents and destination. Thermocouple, electron-device and structural requirements are kept distinct.
WRe Designation Must Include Composition and Use
Specialist manufacturers publish tungsten–rhenium families such as W–25%Re and W–26%Re, while ASTM F73 covers a specific UNS alloy wire for electron devices and lamps. Neither a composition name nor the ASTM reference should be extended beyond its documented product and end-use scope.
Material Definition and Supply Scope
W–25%Re
Manufacturer-published tungsten–25% rhenium family used in selected thermocouple, wire and high-temperature applications.
W–26%Re
A distinct tungsten–rhenium composition used in certain temperature-measurement systems. It is not automatically interchangeable with W–25%Re.
Round Wire
Fine and larger wire sourced by exact composition, diameter, finish, spool, mechanical properties and intended device or thermocouple system.
Flat Wire
Rolled, drawn or etched flat wire sourced by thickness, width, finish, tolerance and secondary cleaning requirements.
Rod and Bar
WRe rod sourced by composition, diameter, length, condition, surface and requirements for subsequent machining or joining.
Custom High-Temperature Parts
Structural, furnace, joining and research components reviewed against drawing, operating environment and required qualification.
Typical Global Sourcing Range
The ranges below represent typical global sourcing and manufacturing capability across specialist sources. They are not MNK stock and do not describe one universal factory envelope.
| Product Form | Typical Global Sourcing Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Published Standard Wire | Approximately Ø0.4–1.5 mm | Exact composition, finish and application specification are required. |
| Finer / Custom Wire | Available on request | Specialist capability is composition- and condition-dependent. |
| Rod / Bar | According to specification | Diameter, length and condition are confirmed for the exact W-Re composition. |
| Custom Parts | According to drawing | Manufacturing and inspection feasibility are reviewed individually. |
WRe3, WRe5, WRe25 and WRe26 are not automatically interchangeable.
Actual availability depends on grade, specification, quantity, tolerances, certification requirements and manufacturing source. Diameter, thickness, width and length must be confirmed as one complete combination.
Standards and Documentation
ASTM F73-96(2025)
Covers UNS R07031 tungsten–rhenium alloy wire for electron devices and lamps, with wire defined as 0.51 mm or less in diameter and supplied spooled or coiled.
Scope Limitation
ASTM F73 is not a general WRe rod, structural-part or universal thermocouple specification. Its end-use and product-form scope must be respected.
Manufacturer Compositions
W–25%Re, W–26%Re and other WRe descriptions require exact chemistry, condition and manufacturer specification before approval.
EN 10204:2004
European inspection-document type may be requested where the manufacturer can provide the required composition, properties and traceability.
IEC / EN / DIN Requirements
Temperature-measurement and device requirements are checked by exact standard reference. No thermocouple or European equivalence is inferred from WRe composition alone.
Inspection
Chemistry, diameter or cross-section, finish, tensile or ductility requirements, packaging and traceability are defined for the intended application.
Application Context
Temperature Measurement
Wire systems for high-temperature thermocouple applications using explicitly specified positive and negative leg compositions.
Electron Devices and Lamps
Wire within the defined ASTM F73 scope where the required UNS alloy, finish and testing are stated.
Furnace and Joining
High-temperature wire, rod and specialized tools or parts developed under manufacturer and customer specifications.
Capability Note
Published dimensional ranges describe demonstrated manufacturing capability across specialist sources, not guaranteed stock and not one universal mill envelope. Diameter, thickness, width, length, condition, tolerance and quantity must be confirmed as one complete combination for each inquiry.
Relevant ASTM Tungsten References
Use the relevant ASTM reference together with the customer specification, drawing, required product form and inspection route. The standard number alone does not establish grade equivalence, stock availability, conformity or fitness for service.
