NONCONSUMABLE ELECTRODES FOR GTAW / TIG

TIG Tungsten Electrodes

Classification-led sourcing for pure and oxide-dispersed tungsten electrodes.

MNK-G.S.A sources nonconsumable tungsten electrodes by AWS or ISO classification, diameter, length, colour identification, surface condition, packaging, quantity and delivery destination.

Classification Comes Before Colour or Trade Name

Electrode type influences arc starting, stability, current capacity and service behaviour, but suitability also depends on current type, polarity, base material, welding procedure and equipment. The governing AWS or ISO classification and the manufacturer certificate are checked for every inquiry.

Material Definition and Supply Scope

Pure Tungsten

Pure-tungsten electrodes are sourced by the applicable classification, diameter, length and identification. Their use is selected against the approved welding procedure rather than colour alone.

Ceriated Tungsten

Diamond Ground Products describes EWCe-2 using the nominal term “2% ceriated”. This describes an electrode type, not a measured batch composition or an acceptance range. Confirm the applicable standard edition, oxide content and certificate for the supplied electrode. Manufacturer guide, ceriated-electrode section. Web section; revision date not stated. Checked:

Lanthanated Tungsten

Manufacturer catalogues include lanthanated families such as EWLa-2 and commercial WL15 or WL20 designations. These names are verified against the governing standard before quotation.

Rare-Earth / Mixed-Oxide

Rare-earth or mixed-oxide electrodes may use manufacturer-specific descriptions or an applicable AWS classification such as EWG. Chemistry and colour coding require documentary confirmation.

Other Classified Types

Zirconiated, thoriated and other classified electrode families may be sourced when explicitly requested and legally acceptable for the destination and workplace controls.

Prepared Electrodes

Cut lengths, pre-ground tips and application-specific preparation are reviewed by diameter, point geometry, finish, cleanliness, packaging and welding procedure.

Typical Global Sourcing Range

The ranges below represent typical global sourcing and manufacturing capability across specialist sources. They are not MNK stock and do not describe one universal factory envelope.

Product FormTypical Global Sourcing RangeNotes
Selected Catalogue ExamplesSee the item-specific catalogue dimensions below; no combined diameter or length range is implied.Selected examples from the SIBITWELD and WELDLINE catalogues cited below; not a complete market range or confirmed stock. Check each classification and size combination.
Prepared ElectrodesAccording to specificationTip geometry, finish, cleanliness and packaging are confirmed by RFQ.

Classification availability is confirmed for each RFQ; the full AWS/ISO family is not presented as MNK stock.

Actual availability depends on grade, specification, quantity, tolerances, certification requirements and manufacturing source. Diameter, thickness, width and length must be confirmed as one complete combination.

Classification References and Catalogue Examples

Current standards define classification and identification requirements, while manufacturer catalogues show which classifications, diameters and lengths are actually offered. These are separate checks: a standard designation does not prove that every size is available.

WELDLINE: 150 mm / 175 mm catalogue examplesCommon diameters Ø1 mm, 1.6 mm, 2 mm, 2.4 mm, 3 mm, 3.2 mm and 4 mm; selected 4.8 mm and 6 mm products at 150 mmThe 6 mm × 150 mm example is Nertal WP. Sizes differ by product family; do not combine independent endpoints.
Prepared or non-standard electrodesCut length, ground point, surface finish, cleanliness and packaging by agreed specificationManufacturing feasibility and inspection requirements are confirmed before quotation.

MNK-G.S.A verifies the standard and edition, exact AWS or ISO classification, chemical composition, colour identification, diameter, length, finish, preparation, package quantity and supporting manufacturer documentation. Classifications containing thorium are handled only after the applicable safety documentation, workplace requirements and destination controls have been reviewed.

Standards and Documentation

AWS A5.12M/A5.12:2024

Current AWS specification for tungsten and oxide-dispersed tungsten electrodes for arc welding and cutting. It addresses classification, sizes, finish, identification, colour coding and chemical requirements.

ISO 6848:2015

Current international standard for classification of nonconsumable tungsten electrodes for inert-gas arc welding and plasma processes; ISO confirmed the edition in 2026.

Classification Verification

AWS and ISO designations are not reconstructed from colour or a trade name. The exact marking, chemistry and manufacturer declaration are checked.

Manufacturer Catalogue

Catalogue examples are tied to a named electrode type and product code below. Confirm the complete diameter/length combination and current availability for the inquiry.

Safety Documentation

Preparation and grinding can create metal and oxide dust. The applicable safety data sheet, ventilation and workplace procedure must govern handling.

Inspection

Classification, diameter, length, surface, colour identification, batch traceability and packaging are defined in the purchase requirement.

Application Context

Manual GTAW / TIG

Electrodes selected for the approved base material, current type, polarity, amperage range and torch configuration.

Orbital and Automated Welding

Controlled diameter, straightness, length, tip preparation and cleanliness for repeatable equipment setup.

Plasma and Special Processes

Nonconsumable electrodes sourced to the applicable AWS or ISO scope and the process-equipment manufacturer’s requirements.

Capability Note

Published dimensional ranges describe demonstrated manufacturing capability across specialist sources, not guaranteed stock and not one universal mill envelope. Diameter, thickness, width, length, condition, tolerance and quantity must be confirmed as one complete combination for each inquiry.

Relevant ISO Reference

Use the current authorised ISO publication together with the governing specification, manufacturer documentation and project requirements. A reference link alone does not establish grade equivalence, product compliance or application approval.

Sources and verification scope

Rechecked 15 October 2026: ISO status, AWS publication scope and the selected catalogue dimensions below. Designation examples and the preparation guide retain their 27 September 2026 review date.

These are source-specific procurement references, not a stock list, a guarantee of equivalence or a substitute for the governing standard, current manufacturer documentation and approved WPS. Older standards may still appear in manufacturer guides. Catalogue dimensions do not imply that every class is available in every size. Manufacturer names do not imply a commercial partnership.
