MARINE ALUMINIUM FOR SHIPBUILDING & REPAIR
Marine Aluminium 5083 & 5086
Grade-, temper- and certificate-controlled sourcing for plate, sheet, profiles and fabricated marine components.
MNK-G.S.A coordinates sourcing of AA / EN AW-5083 and 5086 marine aluminium by exact alloy, temper, product form, thickness, width, length, certification, class or project requirements, cutting and delivery destination.
Alloy Number Alone Does Not Define Marine Suitability
5083 or 5086 must be ordered together with the required temper and product specification. H111, H116, H321 and other conditions are not interchangeable labels: strength, corrosion-testing requirements, formability, welding procedure and class approval must match the vessel or project specification.
Material Definition and Supply Scope
5083-H111
General marine and fabrication plate or sheet supplied under the agreed standard, dimensions and inspection requirements. It is not automatically equivalent to H116 or H321.
5083-H116 / H321
Marine plate and sheet conditions used where the governing specification requires defined strength and resistance to sensitisation, exfoliation or intergranular corrosion.
5086 Marine Aluminium
A weldable Al-Mg marine family available in selected sheet, plate, tread plate and fabrication forms. The exact temper and product standard are confirmed for each RFQ.
Sheet, Plate and Cut Blanks
Full sheets, plates, strips, discs and cut-to-size blanks can be sourced with alloy, temper, rolling direction, surface, flatness and edge requirements stated.
Profiles and Structural Sections
Marine profiles, stiffeners, flat bars, bulbs, T-sections, tubes and custom extrusions are sourced by approved drawing and applicable extrusion specification.
Fabricated and Welded Packages
Cut kits, formed parts, friction-stir-welded panels, aluminium–steel transition joints and matching filler-metal packages are coordinated under the approved fabrication route and WPS.
Typical Global Manufacturing Capability
5083-H116 Published Range
One European producer publishes 5083-H116 coil, sheet and plate at 3–8 mm thickness, 800–2000 mm width and 1500–12000 mm length. These limits belong to that specific product programme.
Common 5083-H111 Sheet Formats
Published European stock examples include 1000 × 2000, 1250 × 2500 and 1500 × 3000 mm formats across selected thicknesses, with some 2000 mm wide plates offered in 4000 or 6000 mm lengths.
Heavy 5083-H111 Plate
Published service-centre programmes show standard plate through approximately 80–100 mm and selected or cut-to-size supply to approximately 120 mm. Availability changes with temper, width, length and certification.
5086 Sheet and Tread Plate
Published 5086 product data covers multiple thin-sheet and plate thickness bands; one stock example is a 3 / 3.7 × 2500 × 8000 mm primed tread plate. This is an example, not a universal 5086 format.
Profiles and Long Components
Standard marine profile catalogues contain many section-specific combinations. Custom extrusions and long panels are reviewed separately because section geometry, press size, joining route and transport determine maximum length.
No Synthetic Maximum
A maximum thickness from H111 plate and a maximum length from thin H116 sheet or a custom panel cannot be combined into one guaranteed 5083 item. All three dimensions and the temper are confirmed together.
Standards and Documentation
ASTM B928/B928M-15(2023)e1
Current marine specification for high-magnesium aluminium-alloy sheet and plate in listed alloy–temper combinations intended for marine hull construction, direct seawater contact and similar environments.
ASTM B209/B209M-21a
General specification for aluminium and aluminium-alloy sheet and plate. It does not replace the additional marine corrosion controls of B928 where B928 is required.
ASTM B221/B221M-21
Covers extruded aluminium-alloy bars, rods, wire, profiles and tubes in listed alloys and tempers; applicability to a specific marine profile must be confirmed.
EN 573-3:2026
Current European standard defining chemical-composition limits and product forms for wrought aluminium and aluminium alloys, including EN AW designations.
EN 485-2:2018 / EN 485-4:2019
EN 485-2 specifies mechanical properties for general-engineering sheet, strip and plate; EN 485-4 addresses dimensional and shape tolerances for cold-rolled products.
Inspection and Class Requirements
EN 10204 inspection documents, class approvals, corrosion-test evidence, traceability and any WPS or OEM requirements are stated in the RFQ. Approval is verified for the exact product and manufacturing route.
Application Context
Shipbuilding and Yacht Structures
Hull plating, decks, superstructures, bulkheads, stiffeners and fabricated sections where the approved alloy, temper and design specification call for marine aluminium.
Marine Repair and Conversion
Replacement plates, cut blanks, profiles and matching filler for repair yards, yacht service and vessel modification under the original drawing, class and WPS requirements.
Offshore and Coastal Equipment
Welded structures, access systems and corrosion-resistant components for offshore, port and coastal installations after project-specific engineering review.
Capability Note
Published dimensional ranges describe demonstrated manufacturing capability across specialist sources, not guaranteed stock and not one universal mill envelope. Diameter, thickness, width, length, condition, tolerance and quantity must be confirmed as one complete combination for each inquiry.
