POTASSIUM-DOPED NONSAG TUNGSTEN

Potassium-Doped Tungsten

Manufacturer-controlled sourcing for W-K wire, rod and high-temperature components.

MNK-G.S.A sources potassium-doped tungsten by the exact manufacturer grade, dopant definition, product form, dimensions, condition, inspection documentation and destination.

W-K Is a Manufacturer-Controlled Material Family

Potassium additions are used to develop an elongated, interlocking grain structure after suitable processing and recrystallisation. Manufacturers describe this as nonsag behaviour and improved high-temperature dimensional stability. The shorthand W-K does not establish one universal chemistry, standard or property set.

Material Definition and Supply Scope

W-K Wire

Fine and larger nonsag tungsten wire sourced by manufacturer grade, diameter, condition, finish, mechanical requirements, spool or coil and intended application.

W-K Rod

Potassium-doped tungsten rod supplied in random or cut lengths with cleaned, ground or other manufacturer-available finishes.

Nonsag Tungsten

Manufacturer descriptions such as WK, W-K or WVM are treated as source-specific designations. They are not assumed equivalent without supporting datasheets.

High-Temperature Parts

Heater, support, furnace and other components require review of operating temperature, atmosphere, thermal cycling, geometry and joining method.

Wire-Derived Components

Coils, pins, supports and formed items are assessed against wire grade, diameter, ductility, forming route and final heat exposure.

Custom Manufacturing

Machined or fabricated W-K parts are developed only after starting-stock availability, geometry, tolerances and inspection are confirmed.

Typical Global Sourcing Range

The ranges below represent typical global sourcing and manufacturing capability across specialist sources. They are not MNK stock and do not describe one universal factory envelope.

Product FormTypical Global Sourcing RangeNotes
WireSee the manufacturer-specific programmes belowThere is no single universal W-K range; confirm grade, condition and the complete supply specification.
Rod / Cut LengthsAccording to manufacturer gradeDiameter, length, straightness and finish are confirmed together.
Formed ComponentsAccording to drawingWire grade, forming route and final heat exposure govern feasibility.

WVM, W-K and other potassium-doped variants are not one universal chemical grade.

Actual availability depends on grade, specification, quantity, tolerances, certification requirements and manufacturing source. Diameter, thickness, width and length must be confirmed as one complete combination.

Manufacturer-Specific W–K Wire Envelopes

Published wire programmes show why the manufacturer designation must remain attached to the dimensional range. The examples below describe production capability, not MNK stock and not one interchangeable W–K grade.

Manufacturer and programmePublished diameter scopeSource and limitations
Plansee WVM wireØ0.05–1.5 mmPlansee. WVM programme only. Confirm surface and delivery condition.
Elmet WK broad production programmeSmall-diameter capability: <0.0254 mm; upper programme endpoint: 6.35 mmElmet. The first figure is a strict threshold, not a fixed minimum. The broad statement is not a guarantee of every finish or spool combination.
Elmet WK finish/spool tableØ0.0254–2.3622 mmElmet. A narrower tabulated programme. Finish, spool type and mass limits vary within this envelope; consult the original table.
Rod and wire-derived partsAccording to grade and drawingElmet. Wire limits do not establish rod or finished-part dimensions. Elmet identifies WK rod separately; confirm the complete rod specification.

The two Elmet entries describe different published scopes and are intentionally not merged. Metric limits are converted from the stated inch values; the small-diameter threshold is not an exact minimum. WVM, WK, pure W and W-La are not declared interchangeable. Confirm grade, diameter, condition, surface, tolerance, spool or cut length, and the intended thermal duty.

Standards and Documentation

Manufacturer Specification

Potassium-doped tungsten is normally controlled by a manufacturer datasheet or customer specification defining grade, dopant, processing condition and required properties.

No Universal ASTM Grade

ASTM B760 applies to wrought unalloyed tungsten flat products and is not presented as a general W-K wire or rod specification.

WVM Manufacturer Reference

Published manufacturer literature describes WVM as potassium-doped tungsten with a stacked microstructure and improved high-temperature dimensional stability; WVM remains a manufacturer material designation.

WK Manufacturer Reference

Specialist manufacturer literature describes pure and potassium-doped WK rod and W-K nonsag wire, with exact availability tied to the selected product and size.

EN 10204:2004

An inspection-document type may be requested where the manufacturer can support the agreed chemistry, properties, dimensions and traceability.

Equivalence Control

WK, W-K, WVM and other supplier designations are not declared interchangeable without composition, process and property evidence.

Application Context

High-Temperature Furnaces

Wire, elements, supports and components where dimensional stability at temperature is a governing requirement.

Lighting and Electronics

Wire and formed components sourced by exact manufacturer grade, diameter, condition and device specification.

Custom Nonsag Components

Drawing-based parts developed around the approved W-K starting form, process route and inspection plan.

Capability Note

Published dimensional ranges describe demonstrated manufacturing capability across specialist sources, not guaranteed stock and not one universal mill envelope. Diameter, thickness, width, length, condition, tolerance and quantity must be confirmed as one complete combination for each inquiry.
