PURE MOLYBDENUM MILL PRODUCTS & COMPONENTS
Pure Molybdenum — Technical Sourcing
Global sourcing for pure molybdenum foil, sheet, plate, rod, bar, wire and parts manufactured to drawing.
MNK-G.S.A coordinates supply against the required production route, ASTM grade where applicable, product form, dimensions, condition, inspection documents and destination. Pure molybdenum is kept separate from TZM, MoLa and other molybdenum alloys.
Specify the Product Form and Production Route
Unalloyed molybdenum can be produced by powder metallurgy or vacuum arc melting and converted into flat products, long products or custom components. The same word “molybdenum” does not define the grade, route, condition, surface finish or inspection scope, so these parameters are established before quotation.
Material Definition and Supply Scope
Flat Products
Foil, sheet, strip, ribbon and plate sourced by thickness, width, length, surface condition and required rolling or heat-treatment condition.
Rod, Bar and Wire
Swaged, forged, rolled, drawn or ground products sourced by diameter, length, straightness, surface condition and tolerance.
Machined Components
Discs, rings, crucibles, furnace parts, electrodes, targets and other components reviewed against drawing, starting stock, tolerances and inspection.
ASTM Grades 360 / 361 / 365
ASTM B386/B386M and B387/B387M distinguish vacuum arc-cast, powder-metallurgy and low-carbon vacuum arc-cast unalloyed molybdenum. The correct grade is selected from the governing specification.
Isotropic Pure Molybdenum
ASTM B1024/B1024M covers Grades 1 and 2 of unalloyed monolithic isotropic molybdenum. It is applied only when explicitly required by the customer or design.
Special Conditions
Stress-relieved, recrystallized, drawing-grade, low-carbon and application-specific conditions require explicit confirmation and cannot be inferred from chemistry alone.
Typical Global Sourcing Range
The ranges below represent typical global sourcing and manufacturing capability across specialist sources. They are not MNK stock and do not describe one universal factory envelope.
| Product Form | Typical Global Sourcing Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Wire | Ø0.01–5.5 mm | Finer or larger sizes may be available on request. |
| Rod / Bar | Ø0.5–150 mm | Typical lengths to approximately 3000 mm. Longer lengths for selected diameters may be available on request. |
| Foil / Sheet / Plate / Strip | 0.001–50 mm thickness | Typical width approximately 600–760 mm; selected rolled products may reach approximately 1000 mm. Typical length to approximately 3000 mm. |
| Custom Parts | According to drawing | Manufacturing feasibility and inspection route are confirmed individually. |
Do not combine the thinnest product, maximum width and maximum length as one guaranteed item.
Actual availability depends on grade, specification, quantity, tolerances, certification requirements and manufacturing source. Diameter, thickness, width and length must be confirmed as one complete combination.
Standards and Documentation
ASTM B386/B386M-25
Product specification for molybdenum and molybdenum-alloy plate, sheet, strip, foil and ribbon. For pure molybdenum it includes Grades 360, 361 and 365.
ASTM B387/B387M-23
Product specification for molybdenum and molybdenum-alloy bar, rod and wire. Its wire scope starts at 0.51 mm diameter or equivalent cross-sectional area.
ASTM B1024/B1024M-23
Specification for Grades 1 and 2 of unalloyed monolithic isotropic pure molybdenum. It is not an automatic substitute for B386 or B387.
ASTM F289-96(2025)
Applies to molybdenum wire and rod for electronic applications within its defined scope, including smaller wire outside the lower diameter limit of ASTM B387/B387M.
EN 10204:2004
European inspection-document framework for metallic products. When requested, the required document type, such as 3.1 or 3.2, is stated in the inquiry and confirmed with the manufacturer.
EN / DIN Product Equivalence
No EN or DIN product designation is assumed to be equivalent to an ASTM molybdenum grade. A customer-specified European or national standard is checked by exact number, edition and product-form scope.
Reference Physical and Mechanical Properties
Density
Published reference value: approximately 10.22 g/cm³. The ordered material certificate, grade and production route govern acceptance.
Melting Point
A specialist manufacturer reference lists approximately 2,610 °C for unalloyed molybdenum. This is reference information, not a maximum service-temperature rating.
Specific Heat
Published reference value: approximately 270 J/(kg·K) at 20 °C. Design calculations must use data appropriate to the actual temperature and material condition.
Thermal Conductivity
A published room-temperature reference corresponds to approximately 142 W/(m·K) at 20 °C. Conductivity changes with temperature and material condition.
Electrical Resistivity
Published reference value: approximately 5.52 μΩ·cm at 27 °C. Temperature, purity, processing route and condition can affect the actual result.
Elastic Modulus
Published room-temperature reference: approximately 317 GPa. Mechanical acceptance values must come from the governing product specification or agreed datasheet.
Application Context
High-Temperature Systems
Furnace hot zones, heat shields, boats, racks, hearth components and other parts requiring a controlled refractory-metal supply route.
Electrical and Thermal
Electrodes, electronic components, heat-management parts and targets where chemistry, geometry and condition are application-specific.
Custom Engineering
Precision parts and assemblies produced from verified starting material after drawing, tolerance, surface and inspection review.
Capability Note
Published dimensional ranges describe demonstrated manufacturing capability across specialist sources, not guaranteed stock and not one universal mill envelope. Diameter, thickness, width, length, condition, tolerance and quantity must be confirmed as one complete combination for each inquiry.
Specialized ASTM Wire References
Use the relevant ASTM wire reference together with the customer specification, drawing, required product form and inspection route. The standard number alone does not establish grade equivalence, stock availability, conformity or fitness for service.
