OTHER REFRACTORY & SPECIAL METALS
Other Special Metals — Tantalum & Niobium
RFQ-led sourcing for tantalum and niobium mill products, special forms and drawing-based components.
MNK-G.S.A develops each supply route from the customer’s exact material designation, governing specification, product form, dimensions, quantity, inspection requirements and destination. Public descriptions represent sourcing capability, not stock availability.
Specification First, Material Name Second
Tantalum and niobium are separate refractory-metal families with product-form-specific standards and grades. A general material name does not define purity, alloy content, production route, condition, dimensions or acceptance criteria. These parameters are established and verified before quotation.
Material Definition and Supply Scope
Unalloyed Tantalum
Wire, rod, bar, plate, sheet, strip, tube and custom forms sourced against the required UNS grade, production route, condition and applicable product specification.
Tantalum Alloys
Ta-W and Ta-Nb alloy inquiries are reviewed by exact composition, governing standard, product form, condition and certificate requirements; no substitution is assumed from the family name alone.
Unalloyed Niobium
Bar, rod, wire, plate, sheet, strip, tube and special forms are sourced by the specified grade, condition, complete dimensions and inspection scope.
Niobium Alloys
Niobium-alloy requests, including defined Nb-Zr families where applicable, require exact grade identity, composition, product form and governing specification.
Parts to Drawing
Machined or fabricated tantalum and niobium components are reviewed for starting material, geometry, tolerances, surface condition, cleaning, inspection and manufacturing feasibility.
Research and Small Technical Lots
Special forms and limited quantities may be sourced for qualified research, prototype and advanced-engineering requirements, subject to manufacturer capability and documentation.
Typical Global Manufacturing Capability
Wire, Rod and Bar
Diameter, cross-section, length, straightness, surface condition and end preparation are confirmed as one complete combination for the requested grade.
Plate, Sheet and Strip
Thickness, width, length or coil form, flatness, surface finish and condition are qualified together; no universal stock envelope is implied.
Seamless and Welded Tubes
Outside diameter, wall thickness, length, manufacturing route, tolerances and testing requirements are established from the governing specification.
Foil and Special Forms
Thin products, blanks, discs, targets and other special forms are available only after review of grade, dimensions, condition, quantity and source feasibility.
Drawing-Based Components
Maximum envelope, minimum features, tolerances, surface finish and inspection method are confirmed after the drawing and starting-material route are reviewed.
Availability
All forms are RFQ-led and order-specific. Published scope must not be read as warehouse stock, a guaranteed size range or a commitment by one manufacturer.
Standards and Documentation
ASTM B365-12(2026)
Product specification for tantalum and tantalum-alloy rod and wire within its defined grade and dimensional scope.
ASTM B708-25
Product specification for tantalum and tantalum-alloy plate, sheet and strip, including defined unalloyed and alloyed UNS grades.
ASTM B521-25
Product specification for tantalum and tantalum-alloy seamless and welded tubes within its stated grades and manufacturing routes.
ASTM B392-26
Product specification for niobium and niobium-alloy bar, rod and wire, including defined unalloyed and Nb-1Zr grades.
ASTM B393 / ASTM B394
B393 applies to defined niobium and niobium-alloy strip, sheet and plate; B394 applies to defined seamless and welded tubes. The current edition and grade scope are checked at quotation.
EN 10204 Inspection Documents
Where requested and supported by the supply route, the required EN 10204 document type is specified separately. It does not create material-grade equivalence with an ASTM specification.
Application Context
High-Temperature and Vacuum Engineering
Material for approved furnace, vacuum, thermal or other high-temperature duties where the exact grade and design requirements are specified.
Corrosion-Resistant Process Equipment
Selected tantalum forms and components may be considered for demanding chemical-service equipment only after compatibility, design and governing-code review.
OEM and Advanced Engineering
Special forms, prototype parts and specification-controlled lots for OEM, laboratory and research programmes, subject to technical qualification.
Capability Note
Published dimensional ranges describe demonstrated manufacturing capability across specialist sources, not guaranteed stock and not one universal mill envelope. Diameter, thickness, width, length, condition, tolerance and quantity must be confirmed as one complete combination for each inquiry.
