Scope in Procurement

ASTM A962/A962M supplies common manufacturing, testing, marking and quality requirements when invoked by an applicable ASTM bolting product specification. The individual product specification remains the primary route for grade and service selection.

RFQ and Bolting Controls

• Applicable individual ASTM bolting product specification
• Component type, material grade, class and dimensions
• Manufacturing route, heat treatment and machining condition
• Required mechanical, hardness, impact or proof tests
• Supplementary requirements and purchaser options
• Marking, packaging and nonconformance controls
• Heat, lot and finished-product traceability

A raw-material or semi-finished-product certificate alone does not establish compliance of the finished bolting component. Traceability must continue through manufacture, testing, marking and the released lot.

Scope Boundary

ASTM A962/A962M is not a standalone grade or universal fastener product specification. Where requirements conflict, the individual product specification and purchase order control the procurement route.
