ASTM A437/A437M covers specially heat-treated stainless and alloy-steel bolting material and components for turbine-type high-temperature applications. The route requires special processing and is not intended for general-purpose use.
Standards Relationship
The specification invokes ASTM A962/A962M common requirements. High-temperature capability depends on the ordered grade, controlled chemistry, special heat treatment and verified room-temperature properties together with the project design basis.

- ASTM A437 grade, component type, size and thread system
- Starting material condition and specified special heat treatment

A raw-material or semi-finished-product certificate alone does not establish compliance of the finished bolting component. Traceability must continue through manufacture, testing, marking and the released lot.
Scope Boundary
The specification does not turn every heat-treated alloy-steel fastener into turbine bolting. Grade, special heat treatment, examinations, finished geometry and the equipment manufacturer’s requirements must all be aligned.
