ERCuNi Copper-Nickel Welding Consumables

Technical sourcing of ERCuNi copper-nickel solid wire and rods by classification, process, diameter, package and documentation requirements.

MNK-G.S.A coordinates copper-nickel welding consumables for shipboard, seawater-system, repair and industrial fabrication inquiries, subject to the approved welding procedure and project specification. Sources and verification scope

Classification Identity

  • AWS A5.7/A5.7M:2026 is the current AWS reference for bare copper and copper-alloy welding rods and electrodes. The manufacturer catalogue does not state a standard edition for its classification entry.
  • voestalpine Böhler Welding lists UTP A 387 solid wire as AWS ER CuNi and ISO S Cu 7158 (CuNi30Mn1FeTi). This is a named-product mapping, not universal interchangeability.
  • ISO 24373:2018 remains published; ISO records its confirmation in 2023.
  • Confirm the offered product, process, diameter, batch documents and project approvals separately.

Standards and Supply Definition

AWS classificationER CuNi in the UTP A 387 catalogue entry; AWS A5.7/A5.7M:2026 is the current reference edition, not an automatically certified batch edition
ISO classificationS Cu 7158 (CuNi30Mn1FeTi), as listed for UTP A 387; ISO 24373:2018 is the current reference
Verified product formUTP A 387 solid wire in the manufacturer catalogue; TIG rods require their own manufacturer documentation
Dimensions and packagingSpecify diameter, rod length or spool format, package mass and quantity; availability must be confirmed for the offered product
Marine applicationCopper-nickel piping, plate, repair or overlay only after base-metal and approved WPS review
Ordering requirementsClassification, process, manufacturer, batch traceability, required approvals, certificate and delivery destination

Application Context

Nickel Institute guidance describes 70/30 copper-nickel consumables for joining both 90/10 and 70/30 copper-nickel alloys. Joining to steel requires separate filler selection because iron dilution changes cracking behaviour. This is background guidance, not an approved welding procedure; confirm the joint design, cleaning, shielding, service conditions and WPS/PQR.

RFQ and Quality Controls

  • Exact copper-nickel base-alloy designation and product form
  • Joint type, thickness, welding process and WPS/PQR
  • Wire or rod diameter, package and manufacturing source
  • Cleaning, shielding and project/class requirements
  • Batch certificate, traceability, quantity and destination

Technical Sources and Scope

Reference editions checked on 27 September 2026: AWS A5.7/A5.7M:2026 and ISO 24373:2018. ISO lists confirmation in 2023. The links identify the standards; they do not reproduce their protected requirements.

Manufacturer evidence: the voestalpine Böhler Welding catalogue entry for UTP A 387 identifies the solid-wire form and the AWS/ISO designations quoted here. Diameter, packaging, certification edition and availability require product-specific confirmation.

Nickel Institute provides application context only. The approved WPS, classification-society requirements and customer specification govern the actual selection.

Relevant ISO Reference

Use the current authorised ISO publication together with the governing specification, manufacturer documentation and project requirements. A reference link alone does not establish grade equivalence, product compliance or application approval.
