PURE TUNGSTEN MILL PRODUCTS & ENGINEERED PARTS
Pure Tungsten
Technical sourcing for tungsten wire, rod, foil, sheet, plate and parts to drawing.
MNK-G.S.A sources pure tungsten by required purity, governing specification, production route, product form, dimensions, condition, surface finish, inspection documents and destination.
Product Form Determines the Applicable Standard
Pure tungsten wire, rod, flat products and finished components do not share one universal product specification. ASTM B760 applies to wrought unalloyed flat products, while ASTM F288 has a defined wire, rod and electronic-device scope. The requested form and end use are checked before a standard is assigned.
Material Definition and Supply Scope
Fine Wire
Drawn wire for electronic, heating, research and specialized applications, sourced by purity, diameter or weight-per-length, tensile range, finish and spool.
Heavy Wire
Larger wire and straightened lengths sourced by diameter, mechanical condition, straightness, surface and packaging requirements.
Rod and Bar
Pressed, sintered, swaged and optionally ground long products supplied in random or cut lengths with application-specific finish.
Foil and Sheet
Rolled flat products sourced by thickness, width, length, condition, surface finish, grain direction and inspection.
Plate
Hot-rolled or otherwise processed plate sourced by complete format, condition, surface and machining allowance.
Custom Parts
Machined and fabricated components reviewed against starting stock, drawing, tolerances, surface, inspection and operating environment.
Typical Global Sourcing Range
The ranges below represent typical global sourcing and manufacturing capability across specialist sources. They are not MNK stock and do not describe one universal factory envelope.
| Product Form | Typical Global Sourcing Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Wire | Ø0.008–1.5 mm | Special fine wire may be available on request. |
| Micro / EDM Rod | Ø0.05–0.50 mm | Published lengths approximately 100–500 mm; keep separate from general bar. |
| General Rod / Bar | Ø0.13–90 mm | Commonly to approximately 3000 mm length. Maximum length depends strongly on diameter. |
| Foil / Sheet / Plate | 0.006–100 mm thickness | Width to approximately 500 mm and length to approximately 2000 mm, dependent on thickness and source. |
| Custom Parts | According to drawing | Manufacturing feasibility is confirmed individually. |
Do not imply that all diameters are available at the longest published length.
Actual availability depends on grade, specification, quantity, tolerances, certification requirements and manufacturing source. Diameter, thickness, width and length must be confirmed as one complete combination.
Standards and Documentation
ASTM B760-07(2023)
Current specification for wrought unalloyed tungsten plate, sheet and foil. It addresses chemistry, mechanical properties, dimensions and workmanship within its flat-product scope.
ASTM F288-96(2025)
Current specification covering defined drawn tungsten wire types for electron tubes, lamps and other devices, plus one rod type for metal-to-glass sealing.
Scope Limitation
ASTM F288 is not a universal specification for every pure tungsten rod or general engineering component; ASTM B760 does not cover wire or rod.
Manufacturer Purity
One integrated manufacturer publishes 99.95% minimum tungsten for its pure rod, wire, plate and sheet family. The actual quotation is controlled by the selected source certificate.
EN 10204:2004
European inspection-document type may be specified where the manufacturer can support the agreed chemistry, dimensions, properties and traceability.
No Automatic EN / DIN Equivalent
No generic EN or DIN designation is assumed equivalent to ASTM B760 or F288. Any European requirement is reviewed by exact document number and product scope.
Reference Physical and Mechanical Properties
Reference Basis
The values below are published reference data for tungsten and do not replace product-form, production-route, condition or lot-specific acceptance criteria.
Density and Melting Point
Published reference density is approximately 19.3 g/cm³ and the melting point approximately 3,410 °C.
Heat Capacity and Conductivity
Published specific heat is approximately 140 J/(kg·K) at 20 °C. Thermal conductivity at 20 °C is approximately 167 W/(m·K), converted from the cited engineering-unit value.
Thermal Expansion
Published mean CTE from 0 to 500 °C is approximately 4.45 × 10⁻⁶/K for annealed tungsten and 4.98 × 10⁻⁶/K for worked material.
Electrical Resistivity
Published electrical resistivity is approximately 5.50 µΩ·cm at 20 °C and rises with temperature.
Elastic Modulus
Published room-temperature Young’s modulus is approximately 407 GPa, converted from 59 × 10⁶ psi. Actual finished-product properties depend on purity, route, condition and orientation.
Application Context
High-Temperature Furnaces
Heating elements, shields, supports, boats and components developed around operating temperature, atmosphere, load and thermal cycling.
Electronics and Devices
Wire, seal rod, contacts and other components sourced under the applicable device, material and dimensional requirements.
Research and Custom Engineering
Mill products and drawing-based parts for vacuum, thermal, laboratory and specialized industrial systems.
Capability Note
Published dimensional ranges describe demonstrated manufacturing capability across specialist sources, not guaranteed stock and not one universal mill envelope. Diameter, thickness, width, length, condition, tolerance and quantity must be confirmed as one complete combination for each inquiry.
