Scope in Procurement
ASTM F288-96(2025) covers defined drawn tungsten wire types used to make parts for electron tubes, lamps and other devices, plus a specific rod route for metal-to-glass sealing.
The standard distinguishes commercially pure nonsag material and thoriated filament-wire types, with chemistry, mechanical, dimensional, finish, surface and supply-format controls.
It is not a universal specification for every pure-tungsten wire, general engineering rod, welding electrode or finished component. Radioactive-material and destination requirements must be screened where a thoriated type is requested.
