Scope
What This Standard Covers
ASTM B387/B387M-23 is a product specification for bar, rod and wire made from defined unalloyed molybdenum and molybdenum-alloy material groups.
The standard includes chemical and mechanical requirements for the covered forms. Its wire scope starts at 0.020 in. (0.51 mm); smaller electronic wire is addressed by ASTM F289.

The material-number framework is aligned with the related flat-product specification, but the applicable requirements are specific to bar, rod and wire.
- Molybdenum 360, 361 and 365 — defined unalloyed molybdenum routes;
- Alloy 363 and Alloy 364 — TZM material routes;
- Alloy 366 — molybdenum–30% tungsten material;
- covered product forms are bar, rod and wire at sizes within the standard’s scope.

Relationship to Other Standards
ASTM B386/B386M addresses flat products. ASTM F289 covers smaller wire and rod intended for electronic applications under its own grade and dimensional framework. ASTM B1024/B1024M addresses isotropic unalloyed molybdenum.
Related designations are not automatically equivalent. Any comparison with EN, ISO, DIN, ГОСТ, ТУ, manufacturer grades or customer specifications must be checked against the applicable technical documents and certificates.
