ISO 3506-1:2020 — Stainless Steel Bolts, Screws and Studs
Procurement reference for grades and property classes of corrosion-resistant stainless externally threaded fasteners.

Scope in Procurement
ISO 3506-1 specifies mechanical and physical properties for corrosion-resistant stainless bolts, screws and studs with defined grades and property classes, metric thread requirements and ambient-temperature testing scope.
RFQ and Finished-Fastener Controls
- Exact fastener type, geometry and dimensional standard
- Metric thread size, pitch, tolerance and fit
- Stainless grade and ISO 3506-1 property class
- Manufacturing condition and surface finish
- Required full-size or machined-sample tests
- Mating nut property class and compatibility
- Marking, lot identity and inspection-document requirements
A raw-material certificate does not establish finished-fastener compliance. The report must trace the finished lot, tests and marking to the exact standard and order.
Scope Boundary
ISO 3506-1 does not by itself specify torque/clamp-force behaviour, shear strength, fatigue resistance or weldability. A familiar stainless label does not prove suitability for a particular marine or chloride service.
