ASTM B887-25 — Cemented Carbide Coercivity Testing

Procurement reference for non-destructive magnetization-coercivity measurement of cemented-carbide products.

Edition control: Active; ASTM B887-25. This original MNK-G.S.A summary does not reproduce or replace the protected ASTM publication. Confirm the current authorised edition and governing order documents before use.

Scope in Procurement

ASTM B887-25 covers magnetization-coercivity measurement of cemented-carbide materials and products using coercive-force instrumentation.

For a controlled grade family, coercivity can support relative comparison of carbide grain size, binder content and possible carbon deficiency and can flag deviation from a specified norm.

The result is an indirect estimate rather than a complete chemical or metallographic description. Composition, magnetic binder behaviour, calibration and grade-specific correlation must be documented.
