Scope

What This Standard Covers

ASTM B574-23 covers rod and bar in defined low-carbon nickel-chromium-molybdenum and related alloy families for general corrosive service.

The standard separates size and finishing routes, including solution-annealed and pickled or mechanically descaled products, ground or turned products, and cold-worked products for selected alloys.

Covered materials

Alloys, Conditions and Product Forms

The exact UNS number, diameter or section dimension, manufacturing condition and finish must be stated. The dimensional bands in the standard determine which product conditions apply.

  • UNS N10276, N06022, N06035, N06044, N06455, N06058 and N06059;
  • UNS N10362, N06210, N06200 and N06686;
  • solution-annealed and pickled or mechanically descaled rod and bar in the smaller standard size band;
  • solution-annealed, ground or turned product through 88.9 mm within the specified scope;
  • cold-worked, ground or turned product for selected listed alloys from 6.35 mm through 88.9 mm.

Prepare the inquiry against the governing project specification. State:

  • the full ASTM designation and required edition;
  • the exact UNS number and ordered heat-treatment or product condition;
  • product form, dimensions, tolerances, surface requirements and quantity;
  • inspection-document type, tests, supplementary requirements and acceptance criteria;
  • drawing references, packing instructions and delivery destination.

Relationship to Other Standards

ASTM B575 governs plate, sheet and strip for related corrosion-resistant alloy families. The use of similar UNS numbers does not transfer flat-product requirements to rod and bar.

Shared commercial names do not establish equivalence. Any comparison with EN, ISO, DIN, manufacturer grades or project specifications must be verified from governing technical documents and certificates.

ASTM B574 governs its listed rod products; forgings require a separate product-form specification such as ASTM B564 when the exact UNS grade is covered.

For seamless pipe and tube in the nickel and nickel-cobalt alloy families listed by B622, use the tubular specification rather than the rod and bar route.
