Scope in Procurement

ASTM B546 covers electric fusion-welded pipe in specified nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum, nickel-iron-chromium-silicon and related nickel-chromium-iron alloy routes for heat-resisting applications and general corrosive service.

RFQ and Product Controls

• Exact UNS alloy and ASTM B546-19(2024) edition
• Class, nominal pipe size, wall basis, length, ends and dimensional tolerances
• Electric fusion-welding route, filler metal and double-welded full-penetration joint requirements
• Annealed condition, surface state and repair-welding controls
• Chemical, transverse tension and guided-bend requirements for the selected alloy
• Pressure test, inspection and any supplementary examination activated by the order
• ASTM B775/B775M requirements, inspection document, traceability, marking and destination

The material identity must remain traceable from the producing heat and lot through manufacture, welding or seamless processing, heat treatment, testing, inspection documentation, marking and final release.

Scope Boundary

ASTM B546 is an electric fusion-welded pipe route, distinct from automatic no-filler welded pipe and seamless pipe. The selected class, filler metal, fabrication procedure and governing design code must be stated and qualified for the project.
