Scope in Procurement
ASTM B311-22 covers density determination for cemented carbides and powder-metallurgy materials with low porosity using a water-displacement route.
Density can reveal significant composition deviation, particularly in simpler WC-Co families, but complex-carbide systems require more cautious interpretation.
A density result inside an expected range does not prove correct chemistry because different constituent changes can compensate. Density must be reviewed with composition and microstructure evidence.
