ASTM B163-26 — Nickel-Alloy Heat-Exchanger Tubes

Scope in Procurement

ASTM B163 covers seamless nickel and nickel-alloy tubes for condenser and heat-exchanger service. The order must identify the exact alloy and condition together with the outside-diameter and average-wall or minimum-wall route.

RFQ and Product Controls

• Exact UNS alloy and ASTM B163-26 edition
• Tube outside diameter, wall basis, wall thickness, length and tolerances
• Material condition, heat treatment, finish and cleanliness requirements
• End preparation, straightness and any fabrication allowance
• Chemical, mechanical, hardness and grain-size requirements applicable to the order
• Hydrostatic, pneumatic or nondestructive examination route required by the purchase specification
• Inspection-document type, heat and lot traceability, marking, packaging and destination

The material identity must remain traceable from the producing heat and lot through manufacture, testing, inspection documentation, marking and final release.

Scope Boundary

ASTM B163 is a heat-exchanger tube specification, not a general pipe route. It does not automatically establish pressure-equipment design approval, corrosion suitability, tubesheet-joint performance or compliance with a project code.
