ISO 3506-6:2020 — Stainless and Nickel-Alloy Selection for Fasteners
Procurement reference for material-selection rules supporting corrosion-resistant fastener specifications.
Edition control: ISO 3506-6:2020 is published and was confirmed in 2025. Confirm the authorised publication and order requirements before use.
Scope in Procurement
ISO 3506-6 provides general rules and technical information for selection of stainless steels and nickel alloys suitable for fasteners and is intended for use with the relevant finished-fastener parts of ISO 3506.
RFQ and Finished-Fastener Controls
- Joint environment, temperature and design life
- Candidate stainless or nickel-alloy fastener material
- Applicable finished-fastener part of ISO 3506
- Property class, geometry, thread and load requirements
- Galvanic compatibility with clamped materials
- Fabrication, coating, passivation and installation requirements
- Inspection, traceability and maintenance plan
A raw-material certificate does not establish finished-fastener compliance. The report must trace the finished lot, tests and marking to the exact standard and order.
Scope Boundary
ISO 3506-6 supports material selection; it is not a standalone finished-fastener product specification and does not replace engineering assessment of corrosion, temperature, preload or joint design.
