ISO 3651-2:1998 — Intergranular Corrosion of Stainless Steels

Procurement reference for sulfuric-acid-media tests used to determine resistance of stainless steels to intergranular corrosion.

Edition control: ISO 3651-2:1998 remains published and current in the official ISO record, but Edition 3 is under development and will replace it when published. Confirm the authorised publication and order requirements before use.

Scope in Procurement

ISO 3651-2:1998 addresses corrosion tests in sulfuric-acid-containing media for ferritic, austenitic and ferritic-austenitic (duplex) stainless steels.

RFQ and Test Controls

  • Exact stainless grade and governing product standard
  • Required ISO 3651-2 method or agreed test route
  • Product form, delivery condition and fabrication or heat-treatment history
  • Sample location, orientation, preparation and traceability
  • Required sensitization or as-delivered condition where specified
  • Examination, measurement and acceptance criteria
  • Edition control because a replacement edition is under development

The inquiry and purchase order should link the test result to the exact material, product condition, sample identity and governing acceptance requirement.

Scope Boundary

The standard addresses intergranular-corrosion resistance under its defined test conditions. It does not guarantee resistance to every corrosive medium or replace the product specification.
