EN 10021:2006 — General Technical Delivery Conditions for Steel Products

Procurement reference for coordinating the purchase order, product standard and general delivery conditions for steel products.

Edition control: EN 10021:2006 is current in the national records checked on 31 August 2026; DIN EN 10021:2007-03 is the German adoption. Confirm the authorised edition and amendments before use.

Scope in Procurement

EN 10021 provides general technical delivery conditions for steel products covered by EN 10079, except steel castings and powder-metallurgy products.

Where the purchase order or applicable product specification differs from the general delivery conditions, the agreed order or product-specification requirements govern.

Procurement Hierarchy

  • Project specification, contract and approved purchase order
  • Applicable steel product or material standard
  • The named general technical delivery standard
  • Required inspection-document route and certificate information structure
  • Approved inspection plan, supplementary tests and acceptance criteria

This hierarchy prevents a general delivery standard from being used as a substitute for the exact grade, form, dimensions, condition, testing and project requirements.

Ordering and Delivery Controls

  • Exact steel designation and governing product standard
  • Product form, dimensions, tolerances, quantity and delivery condition
  • Manufacturing, heat-treatment and surface requirements
  • Chemical, mechanical, impact, corrosion, NDT and dimensional tests where applicable
  • Sampling, retest and acceptance requirements stated by the governing documents
  • Inspection-document type, traceability and required certificate fields
  • Marking, identification, packing and delivery destination
  • Any deviation, concession or project-specific precedence agreed in writing

Scope Boundaries

  • Steel castings require their applicable delivery framework
  • Powder-metallurgy products are outside the stated general scope
  • The standard does not prove material grade or fitness for service
  • Inspection documents do not replace the product standard or inspection plan

Companion Technical Pages

EN 10021 and ISO 404 are parallel regional and international frameworks. Use the standard named in the order; do not assume clause-by-clause equivalence.
