310S & 310H Stainless Steels — High-Temperature Sourcing

Technical sourcing of S31008 / S31009 and EN 1.4845 material for high-temperature equipment, piping and fabricated components.

MNK-G.S.A coordinates 310S and 310H flat, long, tubular and forged product inquiries against the exact grade, product standard, temperature regime, environment and inspection plan.

Grade Identity and Verification

  • 310S (UNS S31008) and 310H (UNS S31009) are carbon-controlled variants within the high-chromium, high-nickel 25/20 austenitic stainless family.
  • The two designations are not automatic substitutes. The requested carbon range, creep requirements, heat treatment, product standard and design code control the order.
  • Manufacturer literature maps 310S and 310H products to EN 1.4845, but the exact EN designation and product-specific certificate must still be verified.
  • Manufacturer guidance lists furnace equipment, heat-treatment baskets, thermowells, heat exchangers, boiler and refinery equipment, valves, flanges and high-temperature tube as application contexts.
  • Published producer temperature guidance differs by product and environment. It is context, not a universal design temperature or life guarantee.

Product Forms, Standards and Supply Formats

Flat productsCold- or hot-rolled coil, sheet, strip, plate and cut blanks under ASTM A240/A480 or EN 10088-2, where the ordered grade is included
Producer flat-product exampleOne current Aperam 310S programme lists coils and sheets at 0.40–12 mm thick and widths up to 1,524 mm; quotation remains subject to grade, finish, width, length and current mill availability
Long and semi-finished productsBar, rod, wire, sections, billets and forging stock under ASTM A276/A479/A314 or EN 10088-3, with exact carbon-controlled grade verification
Tube and pipeSeamless or welded high-temperature tube and pipe under the applicable ASTM A213/A312 or EN 10216-5/EN 10217-7 product route
Forgings and componentsFlanges, fittings, valves, rings and high-temperature parts under ASTM A182/A965, EN 10222-5 or a customer drawing and approved material specification
Fabricated supplyCut plate, formed parts, furnace internals, baskets, supports, sleeves or machined components after welding, forming, heat-treatment and acceptance requirements are defined

Application Context

Potential applications include furnace and heat-treatment equipment, high-temperature piping, boiler and refinery components, thermowells, heat exchangers, valves, flanges and fabricated internals. Selection must account for continuous or cyclic exposure, oxidation, carburization, sulfidation, nitriding, low-oxygen gases, condensates, creep loading and thermal fatigue. A producer’s maximum-air-temperature statement cannot replace design-code calculations.

RFQ and Quality Controls

  • 310S / S31008 or 310H / S31009 and the governing product standard
  • Continuous and upset temperatures, dwell time, thermal cycling and design life
  • Gas composition, oxygen potential, sulphur, carbon activity and condensate conditions
  • Product form, dimensions, tolerances, finish and heat-treatment condition
  • Creep, mechanical, NDT, grain-size, pressure-code and fabrication requirements
  • Certificate type, heat traceability, quantity, packing and destination

Technical Sources

The cited manufacturer programmes describe specific products and conditions. MNK does not extend a flat-product temperature statement, dimension or grade identity automatically to bar, tube, forgings or fabricated parts. The exact product standard and certificate control the supply.

Related ASTM Reference Pages

Select the governing specification by product form and service route. The standard designation does not by itself confirm that a particular grade, condition or project requirement is included.

Relevant EN Product-Form References

These references support order preparation by product form. The current authorised standard, material grade, edition, design code and project documents must be verified before quotation.

Relevant ISO References

Use the current authorised edition together with the governing product specification, project requirements and inspection documents. A standards reference does not establish automatic grade equivalence or product approval.
