Scope in Procurement
ISO 28079:2026 defines an indentation method for determining Palmqvist toughness in metal-bonded carbide and carbonitride materials, including hardmetals, cemented carbides and cermets.
The result is derived from cracking associated with a Vickers hardness indentation and is intended primarily for ordinary laboratory-air conditions at ambient temperature.
Use outside the stated environmental basis, including corrosive media, requires another agreed route. The test result must remain linked to specimen preparation, load, crack measurement and report traceability.
