Scope
What This Standard Covers
ASTM B381-26 covers annealed titanium and titanium-alloy forgings in the grade families listed by the governing edition.
Forging grades use the F-prefix. The exact F-grade and UNS designation must be maintained through the inquiry, quotation, manufacturing and certification process.
Material and product definition
Grades, Conditions and Product Forms
The specification addresses chemical composition and applicable mechanical properties. Ultrasonic, radiographic or surface examination must be stated by the purchaser when required.
An F-grade is not automatically interchangeable with a grade used for plate, bar, pipe or another product form.
Inquiry preparation
Ordering and Verification Points
Prepare the inquiry against the governing project specification. State:
- full ASTM designation and required edition
- F-grade and UNS number
- forging drawing, dimensions, tolerances and machining allowance
- part weight, quantity, production route and heat-treatment condition
- mechanical tests, nondestructive examination and acceptance criteria, inspection documents and destination
