ISO 377:2017 — Samples and Test Pieces for Steel Mechanical Testing
Procurement reference for identification, location and preparation of steel samples and test pieces used in mechanical testing.

Scope in Procurement
ISO 377:2017 covers samples and test pieces for mechanical tests on steel sections, bars, rod, flat products and tubular products defined in ISO 6929. It may apply to other metallic products when agreed in the order.
Where the order or product standard differs, those requirements govern.
RFQ and Sampling Controls
- Product form, grade, condition and governing product standard
- Heat, lot, item and sampling-unit identification
- Sample location through the product section
- Longitudinal, transverse or other required orientation
- Sample removal and preparation route
- Test-piece geometry and machining controls from the governing documents
- Required test method and acceptance criteria
- Traceability from finished test piece to delivered product
All sample identifiers, preparation steps and test results should remain traceable to the delivered heat, lot or item and to the governing order documents.
Scope Boundary
ISO 377 controls mechanical-test samples and test pieces. Chemical-composition sampling is a different task addressed by ISO 14284 where applicable.
