ASTM B161-25 — Nickel Seamless Pipe and Tube

Scope in Procurement

ASTM B161 covers seamless pipe and tube in nickel UNS N02200 and low-carbon nickel UNS N02201. The exact alloy, product designation, manufacture route and condition must be stated together; hot-worked material is a purchaser-and-manufacturer agreement route.

RFQ and Product Controls

• Exact UNS N02200 or N02201 and ASTM B161-25 edition
• Pipe or tube designation, process duty and governing equipment or piping specification
• Nominal size or outside diameter, wall basis, wall thickness, length and tolerances
• Cold-worked route, or an explicitly agreed hot-worked route, and final condition
• Chemical and mechanical requirements for the selected nickel and condition
• Hydrostatic or nondestructive examination and any supplementary requirements
• ASTM B829 requirements, inspection document, heat-and-lot traceability, marking and destination

The material identity must remain traceable from the producing heat and lot through manufacture, seamless processing, heat treatment, testing, inspection documentation, marking and final release.

Scope Boundary

ASTM B161 is a seamless pure-nickel tubular route. It does not cover welded tube, welded pipe or the broader nickel-alloy families governed by other ASTM product specifications, and it does not make N02200 and N02201 interchangeable.
