ASTM E8/E8M-25 — Tension Testing of Metallic Materials

Scope in Procurement

ASTM E8/E8M-25 covers tension testing of metallic materials in any form at room temperature and the determination of tensile and ductility properties within its scope.

The E8 and E8M routes use separate unit systems and specimen conventions; the governing order must identify the required route rather than mix values between systems.

The material or product standard controls sampling, specimen location and orientation, test count and acceptance criteria.

Scope Boundary

A standardized specimen result may not represent every location in the finished product or its behaviour in service. Product specifications and design rules remain controlling.

• Exact ASTM edition and governing material or product specification
• Material grade, product form, condition and batch identity
• Specimen location, orientation, preparation and test quantity
• Required temperature, unit system or hardness scale as applicable
• Equipment verification, laboratory requirements and traceability
• Result format, acceptance criteria, retest route and inspection document
