ISO 6507-1:2023 — Vickers Hardness Test Method

Procurement reference for Vickers hardness testing of metallic materials, hardmetals and applicable coatings.

Edition control: Published. Confirm the current authorised edition and the governing product or order specification before use. This original MNK-G.S.A summary does not reproduce or replace the protected ISO publication.

Scope in Procurement

ISO 6507-1:2023 specifies the Vickers hardness test method for metallic materials within defined test-force and indentation ranges.

Its official scope includes hardmetals, other cemented carbides and certain metallic or inorganic coating measurements when the stated conditions are met.

The governing product standard must define the selected test condition, preparation, measurement location, result format and acceptance criteria.

Scope Boundary

A Vickers result does not establish grade identity or interchangeability. Hardmetal product and test standards may impose additional or different controls.

Ordering and Test-Report Controls

  • Exact ISO edition and governing material or product standard
  • Material grade, product form, delivery condition and batch identity
  • Specimen location, orientation, preparation and number of tests
  • Selected test condition, temperature or hardness scale as applicable
  • Equipment verification, laboratory requirements and measurement traceability
