ISO 6892-1:2019 — Tensile Testing at Room Temperature

Scope in Procurement

ISO 6892-1:2019 specifies the room-temperature tensile-test method for metallic materials and the mechanical properties that can be determined by the test.

The method is cross-material. The governing product standard or order specification still controls specimen location, orientation, preparation, test count and acceptance criteria.

A reported tensile value is meaningful only when the material identity, condition, specimen and test route are traceable.

Scope Boundary

This method does not replace product specifications, elevated-temperature testing under ISO 6892-2 or low-temperature testing under ISO 6892-3.

Ordering and Test-Report Controls

• Exact ISO edition and governing material or product standard
• Material grade, product form, delivery condition and batch identity
• Specimen location, orientation, preparation and number of tests
• Selected test condition, temperature or hardness scale as applicable
• Equipment verification, laboratory requirements and measurement traceability
• Result format, acceptance criteria, retest route and inspection document
