ASTM B276-21 — Cemented Carbide Apparent Porosity
Procurement reference for metallographic determination and reporting of apparent porosity in cemented carbides.
Edition control: Active; ASTM B276-21. This original MNK-G.S.A summary does not reproduce or replace the protected ASTM publication. Confirm the current authorised edition and governing order documents before use.
Scope in Procurement
ASTM B276-21 provides a metallographic route for determining apparent porosity in cemented carbides.
The observed field can include true pores and other features visible on a properly prepared unetched surface, so preparation, image quality and classification context matter.
The method is not itself a product specification. Any permitted porosity level must be stated by the producer, customer or governing specification for the exact grade and application.
| Feature | Apparent porosity and other visible unetched-surface features |
| Material context | Cemented carbides |
| Procurement role | Metallographic inspection and reporting control |
| Scope boundary | Does not create universal acceptance levels for every grade or application |
