ISO 3327:2009 — Hardmetal Transverse Rupture Strength

Procurement reference for transverse rupture strength testing of hardmetals and the controls needed for comparable results.

Edition control: Published, Edition 3 (May 2009); confirmed in 2026 and marked by ISO for future revision. This original MNK-G.S.A summary does not reproduce or replace the protected ISO publication. Confirm the current authorised edition and governing order documents before use.

Scope in Procurement

ISO 3327:2009 defines a test route for determining transverse rupture strength of hardmetals.

The method is intended for materials with negligible ductility. Where a specimen undergoes meaningful plastic deformation, the reported result can lose its intended validity and should be treated only as comparative evidence.

A strength value cannot be interpreted without specimen geometry, preparation, support and loading conditions, test report and product traceability.

Where This Standard Fits

  • Hardmetal grade and batch qualification
  • Comparing properly documented test results
  • Defining required laboratory evidence before quotation
  • Identifying results affected by ductile or non-standard test behaviour

Ordering and Document Controls

  • Exact standard edition and agreed test route
  • Grade, batch, specimen source and orientation
  • Specimen dimensions and surface preparation
  • Test equipment, support and loading conditions
  • Individual results, calculation and report traceability
  • Acceptance criteria defined by the governing order document
