Non-Magnetic Performance Must Be Specified and Tested

WNiCu uses a nickel–copper binder and is selected when low magnetic response is important. A commercial WNiCu name does not guarantee one composition, ASTM class or permeability value; the complete requirement and manufacturer certificate govern acceptance.

Material Definition and Supply Scope

Class 1 WNiCu

An official manufacturer publishes a nominal 90% tungsten, nickel–copper binder grade under ASTM B777 Class 1. Exact binder composition and permeability remain grade-specific.

Class 2 WNiCu

Commercial WNiCu families are available in Class 2 density ranges, subject to explicit chemistry, mechanical and magnetic-property confirmation.

Class 3 WNiCu

European suppliers publish Class 3 WNiCu routes for non-magnetic high-density applications. The exact W/Ni/Cu ratio and certificate control identity.

No Non-Magnetic Class 4 Assumption

ASTM B777 states that Class 4 is not available as a non-magnetic grade. A Class 4 request must not be represented as WNiCu non-magnetic supply.

Semi-Finished Products

Rod, plate, blocks, discs, rings and other blanks are sourced by complete dimensions, condition, machining allowance and inspection.

Finished Components

Non-magnetic counterweights, shields and precision parts require drawing, target density or mass, permeability limit, tolerances and test plan.

WNiCu and WNiFe do not have identical properties. Non-magnetic performance must be specified and tested.

Actual availability depends on grade, specification, quantity, tolerances, certification requirements and manufacturing source. Diameter, thickness, width and length must be confirmed as one complete combination.

Standards and Documentation

ASTM B777-15(2026)

Applicable when the proposed WNiCu material satisfies the selected class chemistry, density, mechanical and other requirements within the standard scope.

Non-Magnetic Requirement

The purchase order must state the required magnetic permeability and testing. The binder name alone is not an acceptance criterion.

Class 4 Limitation

The current ASTM B777 specification identifies that Class 4 is not available as a non-magnetic grade.

Manufacturer Grade

A European or international trade designation is treated as manufacturer-controlled and is not assumed to equal another source’s WNiCu grade.

EN 10204:2004

Inspection-document type may be requested with chemistry, density, permeability, mechanical, dimensional and traceability results supported by the source.

No Automatic EN / DIN Grade

No generic EN or DIN material designation is declared equivalent to an ASTM B777 WNiCu class without an exact documented reference.
