What This Standard Covers

ASTM B862-23 covers welded titanium and titanium-alloy pipe intended for general corrosion-resistant and elevated-temperature service.

Welded pipe is manufactured from annealed flat-rolled products. Depending on grade and order requirements, it may be supplied as welded, annealed or in another condition permitted by the governing specification.

Grades, Conditions and Product Forms

ASTM notes that pipe at 8 in. NPS and above is frequently custom-made. Wall thickness, operating conditions and any supplementary provisions therefore require careful purchase-order definition.

A welded pipe must not be offered as seamless, and conformity to ASTM B862 does not by itself establish suitability for a particular pressure system or medium.

Ordering and Verification Points

Prepare the inquiry against the governing project specification. State:

• full ASTM designation and required edition
• grade and UNS number
• nominal pipe size or outside diameter, wall thickness or schedule, and length
• welded construction, final condition, dimensional tolerances and end preparation
• welding, heat treatment, examination, pressure or supplementary testing, inspection documents and destination
