Scope

What This Standard Covers

ASTM B386/B386M-25 is a product specification for wrought flat products made from defined unalloyed molybdenum and molybdenum-alloy material groups.

Its technical requirements address the ordered product form and include composition, mechanical-property and bend-related provisions. The purchased ASTM document must be used for the complete requirements and acceptance limits.

Procurement use

Materials and Product Forms

The official scope identifies material groups by ASTM material number and manufacturing route. MNK-G.S.A verifies the exact requested material and production route before quotation.

  • Molybdenum 360 — unalloyed, vacuum arc-cast route;
  • Molybdenum 361 — unalloyed, powder-metallurgy route;
  • Alloy 363 and Alloy 364 — TZM routes based on nominal Mo–0.5Ti–0.1Zr;
  • Molybdenum 365 — low-carbon unalloyed material from a vacuum arc-cast route;
  • Alloy 366 — molybdenum alloyed with approximately 30% tungsten;
  • flat product forms include plate, sheet, strip, foil and ribbon.

Inquiry preparation

Ordering and Verification Points

A quotation should be based on the customer’s governing specification and the requirements stated in the inquiry, drawing, purchase order or project documentation. Include:

  • the full ASTM designation and required edition;
  • the material grade, alloy or manufacturing route stated by the project;
  • the required product form, dimensions, tolerances, condition and surface requirements;
  • quantity, inspection and test requirements, acceptance criteria and requested inspection documents;
  • any supplementary requirements, drawing references, packing instructions and delivery destination.

Cross-reference

Relationship to Other Standards

ASTM B387/B387M addresses bar, rod and wire for related material groups. ASTM B1024/B1024M addresses isotropic pure molybdenum. Product-form coverage and material-number definitions must be checked rather than inferred.

Related designations are not automatically equivalent. Any comparison with EN, ISO, DIN, ГОСТ, ТУ, manufacturer grades or customer specifications must be checked against the applicable technical documents and certificates.
